Translating into English, Revising and the Analysis of Self-Translation

The thesis title is "Translating into English, revising and the Analysis of Self-Translation", that analyzes the translation of an animated movie script that is written and translated by me being the author and the translator. This script tells the story of a blind girl who becomes the blind princess in the end of the story. This movie is the name of a competition that is created to serve the purpose of the movie in the first place as a kind of thrill. The name of the movie is Princess of the Year. After writing this script, the whole story has been self-translated, as it will be in the range of the required number of words to be translated for commentary. This script is chosen because it is very exciting as it carries interesting ideas and awareness raising messages. This experiment is the first one for me to translate my own work. I have had an open space of freedom concerning the way of my self-translation as well as the style I consider when applying the translation, keeping in mind that I am the author and the translator at the same time. Through that, I have discovered the processes of self-translation and the stages a self-translator might go through when it comes to the source text and the changes that self-translation would add to it. The analysis of the self-translation has helped to answer all the questions on which the thesis focuses. The aims of this research and the gap it fills are as follows: first: to apply self-translation on an animated movie script. The second aim is to observe processes of translation. The third aim is to produce a systematized analysis of a self- translation and problems that self-translators face, which can be used as a reference for academic purposes. The methodology I have used to self-translate the source text I have written is Think-Aloud Protocols and the framework I would use for my analysis is Catford’s Shift Categories.
