This MA Thesis focuses on my translation of Chapter 2 of ‘The New Threat from Islamic Militancy’ by the British author and journalist Jason Burke from English into Arabic. The book addresses the phenomenon of Islamic Militancy as a serious threat to the whole world, and looks into the reasons for its emergence and provides insights on how to deal with it. The target text is intended to capture the author’s ideological stance on the entities and issues discussed in the source text. Adopting Martin and White’s (2005) Appraisal Framework as a model of critical discourse analysis, the critical analysis of the translation seeks to highlight some salient manifestations of the author’s ideological stance with particular focus on Attribution and Graduation.
