This thesis looks at the problem of low quality of translated documentary scripts aimed to be voiced-over for Aljazeera Documentary Channel. After a review of the relevant literature, it examines the context of translating and editing in Aljazeera. A study was then conducted based on Stetting’s three-phase model, to explore the translation problems and the transediting strategies applied to overcome these problems. The analysis was based on the scripts of ten documentary films for Aljazeera Documentary. On the basis of this analysis, a set of guidelines were drawn up for translators of Aljazeera Documentary Channel intended to address the more frequent and avoidable problems. The guidelines were also informed by a series of interviews with both translators and Aljazeera editors.
