The architectural study aims to investigate the mosque identity in Qatar from two different time perspectives, the past, and the present. Through qualitative and field exploration methods, it will also study the history of design approaches for Mosque architecture in Qatar. Moreover, through extensive research on the different styles of existing Mosques in the region, the research will analyze past design approaches and the evolution of mosque architecture across the country, in both residential and commercial zones. This will in turn define the impact of traditional, contemporary and western non-Muslim styles on the architecture of mosques in Qatar. With a focus on the national vision, this research will study the mosques in Qatar as a religious typology, the significance of mosques in the Qatari society by then, and the advancement of the style and design of mosques from the 17th century. Additionally, it aims to pave the way by connecting the old and the new by conducting case studies of five mosques from different time periods to compensate for the lack of literature by generating architectural surveys.
