This thesis sets out to assess the English translation of four children’s short stories from the Qatari folklore by applying Juliane House (2015) Translation Quality Assessment Model (TQA). It focuses on the relationship between the source text and the target text in order to identify mismatches, classify them into overt and covert errors and categorize the related overt errors into seven categories, namely not translated, slight change of meaning, significant change of meaning, distortion of meaning, breach of the target language system, creative translation and cultural filtering. The study aims at assessing the extent to which the translation of these literary texts has been conducted overtly, since any deviation according to TQA model would be considered erroneous. It was found out that the translator has faithfully translated the four Children’s short stories. However, a number of mismatches were found and accounted for. Since the translation is intended for a young audience, the translation of specific cultural terms and references should consider the limited cultural background of the target reader which the translator neglected in some parts of his translation
