QNL and HERMES Project: Impact Stories
The presentation highlights the involvement of QNL’s ILDS section in the HERMES project and its significant impact on daily operations, users, and cost savings. Delivered on an international platform, the presentation introduces the State of Qatar, its geographical location, and provides an overview of the library, including the inception of its Interlending and Document Supply (ILDS) services.
It then explores how the HERMES project emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic and how QNL volunteered to assist other libraries starting in May 2020. Since then, QNL has supplied over 900 documents to international libraries and received approximately 687 requests (as of 2024). Given QNL’s strong support for the medical field, the majority of requests have been related to medicine, followed by subjects such as management and law.
The project's impact extends across multiple areas:
- Community Impact: Supporting medical research, fostering trust, expanding networks, driving business growth, and promoting environmental consciousness.
- Staff Impact: Enhancing knowledge, reducing reliance on paid services, fostering self-empowerment, and strengthening professional networks.
- Operational Impact: Reducing costs, saving time, optimizing budgets, ensuring a faster service, and reinforcing a robust infrastructure.
The presentation underscores how the HERMES project has strengthened QNL’s role in international resource sharing while delivering tangible benefits to its community, staff, and operations.
